So how are you spending YOUR summer vacation?

Laura and I just got back from a combined business/pleasure trip to eastern Idaho and NW Montana, where we ALMOST (but not quite) had a chance to visit Lynne Haley (MHS 1977) and drove past Keith Knol’s neighborhood along the way. I especially enjoyed photographing the Craters of the Moon National Monument (pictured), and fly fishing on the famed Harriman Ranch section of the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River.

(for the record, I landed three trout, and lost two that were well over 20 inches).

More pictures, here:

Note: due to spambot comments, I need to moderate all comments. This means that there could be a delay of 1-2 days between you posting the comment, and it showing up on the site. Sorry about that, but if I didn’t do this we’d have nothing but porn ads and Viagra commercials on this site!

  1. Got the following e-mail from Kathy [Collins] Morely this morning. See, THIS is the kind of stuff I’m talkin’ about!

Scott, Since I now live in Arizona, I don’t get any time in the Everett area. However, I spent the first two weeks of July in the Great Northwest with my family. During that time my family had a surprise 50th birthday party for me. The special guest was J.P. Patches. This was a total surprise and a hoot. I am certain that most of our classmates know who J.P. is. This wonderful person is 79 years old and still getting around great. J. P. Patches does have his own website and is still quite active in the Seattle area. You could suggest to the gang that they check out the website http://www.jppatches.com/index.htm It turns out that J. P. and Gertrude are the subject of a bronze statue that will be unveiled in Fremont (Seattle) in August. Details are on the website.

For those of you whose memories are….resting, here’s JP:

    here’s Gertrude:

    Oh, and here’s Kathy (”then”):

Hopefully I got those in the right order! :-)

  2. Kevin Hayes says:

Ahh…being a Patches pal myself, I’m jealous! I was actually on JP TV show twice as a youngster and can remember it like it just happened 32 years ago! :)

  3. courtesy of Kathy, here’s photographic proof of the recent meeting!

  4. Sherri Malek says:

Wow thats awesome. It beats me being on the Brakeman Bill Show when I was 7. My family and I went up to Winthrop WA for our vacation. Pretty lame compared to J.P. Patches.

  5. Lynne Haley says:

Wow, Kathy, you lucky pup! I love JP. A friend arranged to have him call me on my 45th to wish me a happy B-Day, but I was so embarrassed, I couldn’t talk to him…
Anyhoo, this summer my sig. other Sam and I are building a yurt in the Cabinet Mountains in Montana. One of our hired helpers from the local town walked off with our digital camera, so can’t post a photo of the yurt (now 75% complete), but I can contribute a pic of our idyllic 40 acres of Montana wilderness, formerly known as the Midas Gold Mine claims “Morning Star” and “Last Chance.”

    Viva JP and Gertrude!!!!!
